All brands in our cruelty-free list are verified cruelty-free by us, including these. 🙂

The label vegan can still test on animals. Totally wrong that it’s allowed to be like that but unfortunately it is

It’s the only cruelty free brand I’ve tried but it’s better than head and shoulders!

I’ve been for years just sucking it up and flaking all over the place cause I couldn’t justify the head and shoulders (especially considering they’re not really even a bargain for being a major brand) can’t wait to try these out!!

I also need something with Selenium Sulfide in it for a specific fungal condition that only responds to Ketoconazole or Selenium Sulfide. Ketoconazole needs a script from the Dr. Who is happy to provide it, but I’m sure it will have been tested on animals having come from a drug manufacturer. I can’t find anywhere if Selsun Blue, which contain selenium sulfide, is tested on animals or not. Therefore my guess is it probably is. Do you have any recommendations?

First, thank you for the awesome resource. This is a great go to website for me. Would you consider clarifying if the companies listed are owned by companies that are not cruelty free? For example, Shea Moisture is listed here but it is owned by Unilever which is not a cruelty free company. I hope you will consider implementing this. Thank you for all that you do!

I have a severe patch of seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp that I cleared up a few months ago with a course of Clobetasol from the dermatologist. Immediately following the treatment, I used the Jason shampoo through the next three months, leaving it on for a few minutes when I shampooed every 3-5 days, but the scales returned to their normal state so no recommendation from me. I do have a rec, though: when I was living abroad for my field research I brought along a couple of Lush’s Soak and Float shampoo bars, and I was shocked when my dermatitis cleared completely after a couple of months! The active ingredient in that shampoo is cade oil. They appear to have recently reformulated the bars to mitigate the smell, so I don’t know how well the current formulation would work. The shampoo bars contain a lot of SLS, so I don’t use them here at home in order to avoid frizz. Instead, I bought a jar of cade oil online, added a few drops to a carrier oil, and apply it directly to my scalp. Two applications one week apart and the dermatitis is mostly gone – woo!
